Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a year round holiday destination – there is always a good time to visit at least some part of this beautiful and fascinating country.

The period from November to April is the driest season on the south west coast and up in the hills. Here some of the best beaches and many other places of tourist interest are located and this period is considered as the “tourist season”. May to September is the best time to discover the many unspoilt attractions of the east coast.

Sri Lanka is a tear-shaped island in the Indian Ocean located to the South and East of the Indian subcontinent. The total land area is around 25,000 sq. miles with a length of 276 miles and breadth of 140 miles. In the lowlands the climate is typically tropical. At the higher elevations it can be quite cool at an altitude of nearly 6,500 feet. The humidity, cool temperatures, and high rainfall in the country’s central highlands provide a climate that favours the production of high quality tea and Sri Lanka  is the world’s fourth largest producer.

Seductive beaches and magnificently varied landscapes feature lazy lagoons, fertile wetlands, many types of forest, imposing mountains, rushing rivers and waterfalls. Besides relaxing on the beach there is no shortage of things to see and do. There is an abundance of wildlife in some unique ecosystems and some excellent national parks. Eight Unesco World Heritage sites encompass ancient cities, temples and colonial forts. A vibrant culture includes fine arts, crafts and grand festivals, and a people of diverse ethnicity and religious persuasion, charming and hospitable, will welcome you with a smile.

Sri Lanka has been offering the highest quality “boutique” accommodation since before the term was invented, but there is also a wide range of other accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.
